GROUPING VIRTUAL MACHINES & PHYSICAL SERVERS IN SCOM

I had recently come accross a request for identifying VM servers and Phyiscal servers.

As usual Kevin Holman's blog is user manual or guide to refer and implement customised requirements in SCOM.

I referred the below article, where he explained and written MP, which can be used for the grouping of the VM and Physical servers.

I imported above MP into my test environment first.

The MP populates and notifies under a new column in "Discovered Inventory" and "Windows Computer". It looks as below:

Next we can start creating two different Groups under Authoring, using the follow Expression:

Grouping for Physical servers:

Grouping for VM servers:

Click on Group Members on each of these properties. We will see the result achieved.
